CASACO

横浜の丘の頂上付近に建つ2軒長屋を改修し、シェアサロン+シェアハウス+ホームステイの滞在先とするプロジェクトです。

1階にあるサロンは、シェアハウスの住民たちのリビングでもありながら、地域にもひらかれた場所でもあります。例えば平日の日中は、ママさんたちが子供たちと体操や図工を楽しむベビーサークルの場所として、週末の夜には料理上手な女の子が営む食堂となります。日曜日の朝には留学生が自国の料理をふるまう食堂、書道展やマルシェがひらかれることもあります。いずれも、丘に住まう住民がそれぞれスキルを発揮しながら営む活動です。

中にいると外を歩く人と目があい、外にいると中で何が行われているのかがわかります。建具は全て引き込むことができ、気候が良い時には半屋外的なサロンになります。
戸境壁を取り払うと、あいだに2列の階段が浮かぶ広間ができました。道から庭までが光や風の通り道となり、いろいろなキャラクターの居場所を横断しながら、ときに一体的に、ときに分節しながら、広間を中心として多様な関係を結んでいます。

A renovation of a pair of row houses located near the top of a hill in Yokohama, converting them into a shared salon, share house, and homestay accommodation.

The salon on the ground floor also functions as the living room for the share house residents, while at the same time being a place open to the local community. For example, on weekday afternoons it becomes a baby circle where mothers and children enjoy exercise and arts and crafts. On weekend evenings, it turns into a small restaurant run by a young woman who enjoys cooking. On Sunday mornings, international students may serve dishes from their home countries, and calligraphy exhibitions or small markets are sometimes held. In all cases, these activities are operated by residents of the hill, each making use of their own skills.

From inside, one can make eye contact with people walking outside, and from the outside it is possible to sense what is happening within. All fittings can be fully opened, and when the climate and weather are pleasant, the salon becomes a semi-outdoor space.

By removing the separating wall between the two houses, a hall was created in which two parallel staircases appear to float between them. From the street to the garden, light and wind pass through the space, crossing the places of various characters. Sometimes the spaces function as one, and at other times they are articulated separately, forming diverse relationships centered around the hall.
