WAEN (dining ＆ hairsalon)-01

横浜の丘の頂上付近に建つ民家を改修し、美容室・カフェ・住宅とするプロジェクトです。敷地には家と同じくらいの大きさの庭があり、ニョキニョキと曲がったシュロの木や竹林、紅葉などが育っていました。来る日も来る日のこの場所を通りすぎるご近所の方たちは、いつどんな花が咲くかなどを知っていて、タヌキがいたとか、金木犀の季節だとか、そういう井戸端会議が日常的にありました。

私たちは、この庭とともに、時間によって色鮮やかな表情をうむ建築をつくりたいと考えました。

竹の垂直性に向かうように線を増やしたり、紅葉の赤い色をサンプリングして散らしたりすることで、床下地や鉄骨梁、和室や洋室の寸法やおさまりの作法などの既存の家屋にある豊かな個性と庭の個性とをかけ合わせながら設計を進めました。

A renovation of a private house located near the top of a hill in Yokohama, transforming it into a hair salon, café, and residence.

The site includes a garden nearly the same size as the house itself, where winding palm trees stretch upward alongside bamboo groves and maple trees. Neighbors who pass by this place day after day know exactly when and what kinds of flowers will bloom, and everyday conversations often arise about having seen a raccoon dog or about the season of fragrant osmanthus. Such casual exchanges are part of the daily life of the neighborhood.

Together with this garden, we sought to create architecture that generates richly colored expressions over time.

By increasing linear elements in response to the verticality of the bamboo, and by sampling and dispersing the red hues of the maple leaves, we developed the design by interweaving the distinctive character of the garden with the rich individuality already present in the existing house. This included elements such as the subfloor structure, steel beams, and the dimensional systems and detailing practices of both tatami rooms and Western-style rooms.
