真鶴出版2号店｜Manazuru Publishing, Store No. 2

　神奈川県の西の端っこ、7300人が住まう真鶴半島。その付け根あたり、真鶴駅からほど近い場所の「背戸道(せとみち)」と呼ばれる細い生活道路に面する空き家を、夫婦ふたりが営む宿＋出版社＋キオスクへと改修するプロジェクト。

お施主さんである真鶴出版の2人は、半島に訪れたゲストを連れて、観光地というよりは生活の場所を紹介しながら訪ね歩く「まちあるき」を行なっています。不思議なことに、おすすめの同じルートをめぐったとしても、毎回違う経験になります。

半島の美しさの質感

この建築は、真鶴半島のまち歩きの始点であり終点でもあります。その中で出会う、火山によって生まれた不均質な地形の並び、地熱が育む力強い植物たち、落とす影の揺らぎとともにある、真鶴の生活の質感と連続するものにしたいと考えました。

外と中が連続的に感じられるような窓辺や入口を複数もうけて、ネックレスのように一連の風景として連なっていくように配しています。窓辺の個性は、接する庭の質との関係から導き、太陽が傾くに連れてゆっくりと居場所が移り変わっていく日時計のような状態を目指しました。

At the western edge of Kanagawa Prefecture lies the Manazuru Peninsula, home to a population of about 7,300 people. Near the base of the peninsula, close to Manazuru Station, this project involves renovating a vacant house facing a narrow everyday road known as Setomichi into a combined inn, publishing house, and kiosk run by a married couple.

The two owners of Manazuru Publishing often lead guests who visit the peninsula on neighborhood walks, introducing places of everyday life rather than tourist destinations. Curiously, even when following the same recommended route, the experience is different each time.

The Texture of Beauty on the Peninsula

This building serves as both the starting point and the endpoint of these walks around the Manazuru Peninsula. We aimed to make it continuous with the everyday life and atmosphere of Manazuru encountered along the way, including the uneven terrain formed by volcanic activity, the vigorous plants nurtured by geothermal heat, and daily life accompanied by the shifting play of shadows.

Multiple window edges and entrances are arranged so that the boundary between inside and outside is felt as continuous, creating a sequence of scenes experienced one after another. The character and atmosphere of each window is derived from its relationship with the adjacent garden, and the space is designed to function like a sundial, where places to inhabit slowly shift as the sun moves across the sky.
